Musical Instruments and the Ames Public Library
Many of the instruments we used today were checked out from the Ames Public Library.  Did you know that, as a resident of Iowa, you are eligible to get a library card at just about any library in the state?  If you are in Ames sometimes, check out the children’s area at their public library.  They have a wonderful collection of books, music, movies, big books and instruments as well as lots of great programs and fun things to do.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear Flannelboard
(You can find the pattern for this and other stories at
http://www.kizclub.com/stories.htm.)
You could easily make a flannelboard at home.  I clipped a very large piece of felt to an easel for my board.  I printed the pictures on cardstock paper and then attached some stiff pieces of felt to the back.  I’ve also heard that you can attach little magnet strips on the back and use a cookie sheet as your board.   Flannelboard stories are good for helping kids practice sequencing and storytelling.

(You can find the pattern for this and other stories at
www.kidzclub.com.)
This was the first week I used a flannelboard and you could easily make one at home.  I clipped a very large piece of felt to an easel for my board.  I printed the pictures on cardstock paper and then attached some stiff pieces of felt to the back.  It worked well.  I’ve also heard that you can attach little magnet strips on the back and use a cookie sheet as your board.   Flannelboard stories are good for helping kids practice sequencing and storytelling.
